General Surf Lessons

Aotearoa surf school runs all year round. Surf lessons in Auckland are suitable for all ages and abilities, whether you’re a beginner or looking to improve your skills. Each 2-hour lesson covers a wide range of skills and techniques. General lessons take place in small groups, but your instructor will be happy to cater to your individual needs.

 

You’ll begin by learning the basics, including beach awareness, proper surfboard use, paddling techniques and more. Once you’ve mastered the basic techniques, you’ll learn how to accelerate and turn your surfboard. Your instructor will teach you all about wave selection, timing and positioning. By the end of surf school, you’ll feel comfortable and confident enough to take on the waves on your own. 

Private surf lessons are available for those who want one-on-one time with an instructor – allowing you to make the most of your surf lesson and to progress faster. The specific teachings will depend on your skills and experience. If you’d prefer to share the experience with a group of friends or family, you can also book a private group surf lesson. Whether you’re planning a fun work outing or a birthday celebration, group surf lessons are always a thrill.

For those who want to try surfing on their own, surfboards are available for hire at the Aotearoa Surf shop and Hire Centre. Aotearoa Surf School has the largest selection of surfboard rentals in Auckland. The team at Aotearoa Surf are happy to advise on the best places to go surfing in Auckland. 

Paddle-boarding and kayaking

In addition to surf lessons, Aotearoa Surf school offers a fantastic opportunity to master the skills of paddleboarding. A 1-hour paddleboarding lesson will teach you all the fundamentals of the sport, including safety, posture and technique. Don’t worry; the boards are safe and easy to use - you’ll get the hang of it right away!

To make the experience even more fun, you can book a paddle-boarding party with a group of friends. Paddle parties are perfect for special occasions, such as hen parties and stag nights.
