What's different about driving in New Zealand?
Stay safe on New Zealand roads by observing the following rules for driving your rental car:
- All drivers must possess a valid driver licence or permit while driving.
- In New Zealand, always drive on the left side of the road.
- Pay attention to posted speed limits. On rural roads or highways, the speed limit is usually 100km/h, with most urban areas having a limit of 50km/h.
- At roundabouts, travel in a clockwise direction, giving way to the traffic on your right.
- Do not use a hand-held mobile phone while driving.
